Homicide At Road Block: Police Command Sack 2 Cops
Nasiru Mansur, in Port Harcourt
Addressing journalist in Port Harcourt the police spokesperson in the state, Mrs Rita Inoma-Abbey (DSP), confirmed the incidence and the subsequent sack and arrest of the two accused.
The two accused were alleged to have fired at a bus at the Agip Junction for failing to stop at a check-point after he was ordered to do so, consequent upon which two of the passengers were said to have gave up the ghosts on the spot. Another passenger was said to have escaped death by whiskers even though he sustained serious gun shot. Although the policemen accused the bus driver of refusing to stop at the checkpoint, eye-witness account alleged initial disagreement over demand for particulars, a vocabulary for police extortion.
It was gathered that shortly after the unpleasant incident and following public chorus of disapproval the two policemen were rounded up and caged.
Speaking on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that the two suspects were still in detention.
Mrs Inoma-Abbey hinted that they would be arraigned in court as soon as the autopsy reports on the two deceased were received.
“The two men have been dismissed and we want to charge them to court soon. We are waiting for the autopsy reports and as so as we get it, we will start prosecution,” she said.
