Northern Speakers Condemn Street Beginning

The Northern Forum under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Goar and Hon. Terseer Tsumba as Secretary considered some critical problems in the North and Nigeria at large that required immediate attention. Issues like federal roads, agriculture and the failing standard of education were deliberated upon.

The President was also called upon with commendation not to relent his effort until the master plan is achieved. Rt. Hon Goar said “The 19 Northern Speakers reiterated their position in articulating legislative issues that are of common interest to the region in particular and Nigeria in general. That attention is given to abandoned federal road projects in the north and northern Governors should lay more emphasis on agriculture”.

Some other problems to be considered critically include “the falling standard of education, child immunization, street begging (almajiranci), desertification and flooding. Also considered were, high level of poverty, power sector, ecological problems and solid minerals development in the region.

The Northern Speakers also expressed desertification on what they term as greed by their southern counterpart by objecting to the rotational system of the leadership. Currently, the Speaker from Osun State is acting as the leader.
