Fire Guts Govt. Girl Science Sec. School Jahun
Eye witness at the scene of the fire said, two of the students Hostels caught fire separately and it took men of the State Fire Service several hours to bring it under control. The eye witness added that although no life was lost but students' properties mostly clothes food items, book and boxes were completely burnt by the fire. The state Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido who paid a visit to the institution on Monday appealed to both the Teachers and students to take extra care in dealing with fire in the institution. Governor Sule Lamido, who was said to be horrified, directed the Chairmen of Jahun and Miga Local Government Councils to effect repairs of the damaged buildings in the institution with immediate effect. Commenting on the incident, the principal of the school, Hajiya Amina Muhammed, expressed happiness over the prompt attention given to the incident by the state Government. She said that they are yet to identify the cause of the incident and appealed to the students to be calm and continue with their normal activities. Meanwhile, the Chairman of Jahun Local Government Council Alhaji Idris Iliyasu Danlawan, announced that the Local Government has purchased new boxes, clothes, buckets, eating bowls and other properties belonging to the students worth N500,000 for distribution to them. He expressed the sympathy of the Council on the unfortunate incident giving the assurance that the affected students will be fully compensated. Investigations carried out, has indicated that Miga Local Government would soon send its relief materials to the affected students. Further investigation also revealed that more security personals will be dispatched to the school in order to avoid the reoccurrence of that incident in the school again.
